NYE 2015

Donald and I decided to have some alone time for New Years Eve. This would also give our parents a chance to have quality time with Stella for the holidays. We headed down to Mexico Beach on the 30th. We took a different, longer route. We stopped in Newport, Fl and had lunch at this hole in the wall called Ouzt's. D ordered 1/2 dozen raw oysters and gumbo. I got the fried grouper and shrimp with onion rings. Place ain't much to see, but the food was good. We were told there was a natural sulfur spring just down the dirt road next to the restaurant so we took off and found it.

Then we drove to the lighthouse at St. Marks

We walked around for a bit then hopped in the truck to continue the drive to MB.

I had these signs "commissioned" if you will by Jen Martin for our beach house. I was so pleased with how they turned out. The colors go perfectly.

I also hung the watercolor painting Donald painted me for our first Christmas together. I love that we are a step closer to his dream.

Soooo....the water? Quite chilly.

Daniel and Jaycie rode over and we went up to Lookout Lounge for the double new year. We spent most of the night up there. We did go up to Mango Marley's for a bit, but then rode back to Lookout. We had wanted to go all the way into Port St. Joe for the eastern time zone new year and then ride back on the shuttles for the central time zone countdown, but every bus that came by was sooo full. So since Lookout is technically in EST we just hunkered down there.

On the trip to MB, Donald and I discussed doing a "polar bear plunge" on New Years Day each Jan 1st we are at the beach. I was on board.  Until we walked out that morning after it rained the night before to find the temperature had dropped. A lot. On the 30th, it was warm and very muggy. But it was in the low 50's and very overcast on the 1st. So we said we'd postpone the polar bear plunge until the next day. Surely the sun would be out then. Nope. It was just miserable looking out. And windy. We'd have to walk back to the house freezing and shaking because I wasn't going to allow him to get in the truck and ruin it. Yeah, so what I'm getting at is we chickened out. But it wasn't like we bet money. It was just us running our mouths.

We went over to Larry and Lisa's for lunch. They fixed a black-eyed pea stew served over rice with greens. It was so good.

I did want to wake up on New Years Day and run on the beach, but D said you never start New Year resolutions on New Years Day because everyone is sitting around watching football eating good but not the most healthy food since it's still a holiday. He said you start them on the 2nd.  So on the 2nd we walked/ran/jogged from our house all the way down to Monica's and then back. It was basically a 5K.  It was weird looking out. It was difficult to tell what time it was since we couldn't see the sun. You couldn't tell if the sun was rising or setting.

I did hurt the tendons/ligaments in my ankle jogging due to uneven sand which was pretty sore, but luckily once we got back in town, Dr. Annie made it all better.

I'm so thankful Donald is able to take off the week between Christmas and New Years. It was so lovely to get away just the two of us and not have him worry about work.
