Ugly Sweater 5K & Jamco Christmas Party

Well folks. D and I did our first 5K together-The Ugly Sweater Run. It was at Piedmont Park the morning of Donald's company Christmas party. Don and Wanda came up the night before to watch Stella for the day and night for us. We did the 5K with Chelle and Jenni who told us about it. It was very cold out, but we had clear blue skies and lots of sunshine. The best part was we left early enough to find great parking (next to Chelle and Jenni=plus) and not be rushed. I didn't have an ugly sweater but I found a shirt at Wal-Mart which was fake cross stitched to say "This is my ugly Christmas sweater." I was basically going for overall tackiness with my outfit.

While waiting for the run to begin, one of us noticed a guy dressed like Cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation. I wanted a picture with him but didn't get around to it. Then the race started and while we were being pushed through the lines to begin, Cousin Eddie ran past us. He was the real deal, y'all. The super short white robe-like so short we weren't sure if he had anything on underneath it, the hat, the black dress socks and shoes (to run in btw!) and a cigar in his mouth. It was awesome. So fast forward to us almost being done with the run and I see Cousin Eddie. Turns out, this was Cousin Eddie #2, not to be confused with Cousin Eddie #3, but either way, an awesome costume.

We also saw a girl wearing a sweater with a picture of Jesus on it that read, "Birthday Boy!" I nearly peed on myself when I read that one.
Another one that stuck out was a llama on a sweater wearing the Hasidic Jew hat with the curls that read "Happy Llamakah."

I did the Lights of Life 5K a few weeks early and did it in 42:30. When I signed us up for this one, D said we should be able to do it in 35:00. I told him he was crazy since neither one of us were actually training, or exercising on a daily basis for that matter. So he said we could shoot for 40:00. I told him that we could do.
Problem was, it had been raining a day or two before the run and Piedmont was soggy. Then add a few thousand runners everywhere and things can get messy. So our first mile took 20-something minutes because we were the last wave to go through, there were crowds of people starting and stopping, people with dogs (Jenni too) and parents pushing strollers-all in the race. Oh and we were dodging mud. So yeah, 40:00 was still possible, but unlikely. We tried anyways. We'd set off running and run for as long as we felt comfortable running then slow down so Chelle and Jenni could catch up. We just kept this up for the rest of the run. At one point we ran for quite a while and D asked if I felt like I'd gotten my stride. Until that point, I didn't really know what that meant, but I really did feel like I could have just kept running. I didn't have the I'm-going-to-die feeling or the my-chest-is-going-to-burst-open-just-to-get-more-air pain so that was great. I just felt good. And honestly, the biggest game changer was???  The new sports bra I was wearing. I didn't feel the need to hold my boobs when I ran which was so major!
But we did stop jogging and went back down to a fast walk because since we hadn't trained, I didn't figure it was wise to keep up a pace we weren't use to and risk injury.

Everyone was given a free beer. I took a picture with mine, but naturally, D drank mine.

On the way back to the car we saw this guy again. We saw him earlier while jogging and I'm sure every.single.girl and probably every.gay.guy around Piedmont Park made a collective "Awwwweeeee!!!" when he walked by with all of these Husky puppies.

I drove us up to Buford Highway to get Pho. It was so delicious and we were both so stuffed from it and the spring rolls and shrimp rolls, but we somehow made room for a pineapple bubble tea.

Then we headed over to the Grand Hyatt Buckhead for the Jamco Christmas Party.

This sexy man picked out his vest and *real* bow tie and looked amazing in it.

It was giving him a few problems, but he finally got it right. Or close enough. I have no idea. I had to YouTube a video two years ago on how to tie a tie for a craft project.

I drove down to Serena's place and she fixed my hair. I wanted it up, but she wanted it down, curly and messy. I think this turned out great and I was able to get more "use" out of it.

My dress was $15 at Ross so that was a winner for me!

Damn we are a good looking couple!

This time we actually got to stay the night instead of just stay out super late and drive back with our fingers crossed that Stella was still asleep and not back home crying her eyes out because I wasn't there to nurse her when she awoke.

We had fun as usual. The food and company were great and of course, at any company Christmas party, things can get interesting. I always look forward to this night. We get to be really well dressed good looking adults together and that's a rarity these days.

Mommy and Me Tea

I've been frequenting the Mable House Arts Complex for their Christmas Arts and Crafts show for a few years now since we live just down the road from it. I knew about their Mommy and Me Tea that they offer and was excited to be a part of it this year with my special girl.
We were served little finger foods, sandwiches, fruit and sweets along with a choice of tea or apple juice in real teacups by Disney Princesses!

Melissa, Izzy, Britany, Sophie, Lily, Kate, Alice, Sara and Alana all joined us on Sunday December 6th.

Stella chose apple juice and drank it as though she'd been denied all sources of sugar her entire life!

Stella's been going through a shy phase so I was quite surprised to hear her say she wanted to take her picture with Snow White (especially since she's never seen the movie or know who she is) and went through with the actual picture taking.

Then she wanted to smile with Belle.

Not sure what this look was, but how cute is she?!

We got to sing Christmas songs and Stella wanted to dance with Princess Jasmine.

Hugs for Lily

Then all of the princesses went outside so everyone could take their picture with them. They let us take as many as we wanted/needed and were super sweet and patient with the girls. Now, if we could just work on Stella's smile and Lily not licking on her Elsa dress............

Then back inside for a Mommy & Daughter picture. This was fun and even better that it was less than 5 minutes from the house. The girls enjoyed it and it was something special to do together.  Another lovely tradition to continue.
