1000 Books B4 Kindergarten

Probably in the Fall of 2015, I started noticing these signs for 1,000 Books B4 Kindergarten. Obviously, reading to a child is super important for learning, understanding and literacy and I thought this was a great project we could do. I knew it wouldn't be hard because reading is Stella's favorite thing to do. We read almost every single day and not just one book. We generally read anywhere from 3-5 books a day, but sometimes more.

Actually, if we wanted to punish Stella we could just send her to bed without reading. Sometimes she'll be really sleepy or not being a good listener and if Donald or I mention her just going to bed she'll get all upset and ask, "But are we gonna read books?"

We started on 01/19/16 and finished on 03/16/17.

After school yesterday, we went to the library to turn in the list of the last 200 books.  For a special treat I asked Stella if she wanted a cupcake or a doughnut. She opted for the doughnut.  Krispy Kreme is right down the road from the library so we headed over. She picked out the chocolate iced and rainbow sprinkled one.  She'd also grabbed a dinosaur coloring sheet from the library so we sat down and enjoyed our treats and colored together.

Occasionally I'll see books like Little House on the Prairie or Anne of Green Gables and think, I can't wait to read those together with Stella.  Actually, after seeing the The Magic Tree House exhibit at The Children's Museum this past Fall, I bought a few of them at our local used bookstore to keep for when she's just a bit older.

So glad we could foster her love for books and complete this large task together.
